American Structural Engineering (ASE) is a DBE sub-consultant to HDR for Engineering Service Agreement (ESA) for Engineering Design and Inspection Citywide, Contract No. HWCESA13A. ASE provided one senior and one junior engineer for preparation of Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) plans for Kent Avenue project following latest design standards of the NYC Department of Design and Construction and NYC Department of Transportation.

Project Details: ASE team performed a project site visit to familiarize with the existing traffic movements and volumes within the project. ASE team reviewed and analyzed the highway construction, utility, and pavement marking plans and subdivided the scope of construction work into the following six (6) concurrent stages:

Stage I – Demolition of existing medians.

Stage II – Installation of water main and service connections.

Stage III – Installation of catch basins and basin connections.

Stage IV – Construction of new curbs and sidewalks.

Stage V – Construction of bus pads and medians.

Stage VI – Pavement resurfacing.

ASE team developed site specific MPT plans keeping into account the proposed improvements during each of the above listed stages for each location, while proposing construction work to be performed concurrently, where appropriate, to expedite the project schedule. The design included appropriate and safe accommodation for all pedestrian and bike traffic, while address issues including access to building entrances and driveways, street parking, turning movements, access to fire hydrants, etc.

ASE team prepared conceptual plans for DDC’s review which were further developed into preliminary and final MPT plans.
